The present continuous also called present progressive is used to talk about actions that are happening in the moment. You can use it also to describe when an action may happen in the future.


Actions that are happening now. Sentences example.

Structure sentence.

Pronoun + verb be + verb in ing + complement

  • She is eating a pizza right now.
  • He is playing soccer with his friends.
  • I am listening to music.

As you can see all the sentences follow the mentioned structure. You can use the present continuous in negative way and in for asking questions.

Structure for negative sentences.

Pronoun + verb be (in negative way) + verb in ing + complement.

  • She isn’t/is not eating a pizza right now.
  • He isn’t/is not playing soccer with his friends.
  • I am not doing my homework.

Making questions

Making questions in present continuous is really easy. The only different between the sentences and questions in present continuous is the position of the verb be and the question mark at the end of the question. Look at the nex example.

Structure

Verb be + pronoun + verb in ing + complement +?

  • Is he playing video games?
  • Is she doing her homework?

Finally remember that you can also use the present continue to talk about future plans. For example.

  • When my mom arrives, we are taking a taxi to go to the theater.
  • I am having a party tonight.
