Past continuous is used to describe an unfinished action that was interrupted for another action. It is made for the simple past of the verb "to be" (was and were) and the present continuous of the verb (ing).

 


 

Use the following structure to make sentences in past continuous, use the simple past for the action that interrupts it

Pronoun (subject) + verb be in past tense (was/were) + verb in present continuous + complement + when/but/one day + verb in simple past + complement


I was doing my homework, when mom called me.

I was watching a good movie, but I fell asleep before the end.

When I was climbing one day, I broke my arm.

When I was going to school one day, I lost my money.
